Kowloon Walled City Park In 1842, Hong Kong Island was ceded to the British, so the Qing Dynasty rulers built a fort on the site. Construction was finished about 1847. There was a defensive wall around the fort, and this is why it was called the "Walled City", but the Japanese tore it down when they occupied the area in WWII.
